ALD Series Recap

The York Revolution began their home portion of the Atlantic League Divisional series on Friday, September 26th, 2014. Over 6,600 fans welcomed home the Revs! The fans were in for a treat as one of the most inspirational moments occurred at Santander Stadium on this night. As reported on yorkrevolution.com – With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Sean Smith nailed a drive to deep left-center. Sprinting toward first base as the ball cleared the fence for a game-tying home run, Smith stepped awkwardly and crumbled in pain just past first, seated in the dirt while the scene was bedlam around the stadium. Unable to put any weight on his right leg, Smith hopped around the bases on one foot to a standing ovation, while teammates poured out of the dugout and bullpen to greet him at home plate. Carried off to the dugout by teammates Corey Thurman and Bryant Nelson after reaching home plate, Smith left the field a hero, tying the game at 2-2. The Revs pulled off a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters in ten innings on Friday night in Game Three of the Freedom Division Championship Series.

The series continued on Saturday, September 27th, 2014 – This game went scoreless through nine innings and extra baseball was to be played. Sugar Land scored one run in their top portion of the tenth inning and this was enough as the Revs lost the game by a final score of 1 to 0. This forced an important fifth and final game of this series.

The series finale was played on Sunday, September 28th, 2014 – The Revs jumped out to an early lead but could not hold on as the York Revolution saw their season come to a close with a 5-3 loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters in Game Five of the Freedom Division Championship Series on Sunday afternoon at Santander Stadium.

This Divisional Series saw a total of six firings of the cannon which included two homeruns. I want to thank all the great fans which came through the gates of Santander Stadium during the 2014 season and 2014 Divisional Series this past week. Many magical moments were created! Have a safe and healthy off-season and April 2015 will be here soon!
